Cypress massacre cold case arrest: Feng Lu, Maoye Sun’s coworker, didn’t get promotion before shooting, court documents reveal!

Cyprus, Texas (KTRK) – The man accused of killing a family of four in Cypress, which has been unsolved for eight years, is waiting to be extradited from California to Texas.

For years, there were no new leads in the January 2014 massacre that led to the deaths of two parents – father Maui Sun and his wife Mei Z – and their two young children – 9-year-old Timothy and 7-year-old Titus.

Four members of the Sun family were found shot dead in their home in Cypress in January 2014.

New information from court documents gives a look at what police believe led to an unimaginably horrific tragedy.

Last Sunday – more than eight years after the Sun family’s murder – 58-year-old Feng Lu was arrested in California and charged with premeditated murder in connection with their deaths.

Court documents reveal that all of this may have started due to a problem at work.

During an interview with investigators, Lu told police that he had asked Sun for a recommendation for a promotion.

Lu told the police that he had heard that Sun had not made the recommendation, so he called him to ask why he hadn’t made it. Sun reportedly told Lu he recommended it, according to the documents.

When Lu returned to work the next day, he told police he felt “treated differently” by his co-workers, and said he believed Sun said something offensive about him to his co-workers after their phone call, which is why he wasn’t. selected for promotion.

According to court documents, Lu purchased a handgun on January 23. Investigators believe he used the same gun to kill the Sun family two days later.

Investigators believe the Suns were shot at their Coles Crossing home sometime on Friday, January 24, 2014. Their bodies were not discovered until the father failed to show up for work the following Monday.

Lu told investigators that he did not know the rest of the Sun family or where they lived. However, court documents indicate that DNA evidence contradicts this statement.

An arrest in the case is a big deal after all these years, especially for some members of the Chinese-American community who said they felt the case had been forgotten.

“Knowing that they stayed in it, that someone was under suspicion, and they waited until the right time to arrest, is very interesting,” said community leader Rogen G. Calvert. “I will speak on behalf of the community. I know that when the word is spread and more people are heard, it will definitely restore our faith in law enforcement.”

Lu was arrested Sunday in the San Francisco Bay Area upon arrival in the United States from China. He is currently in San Mateo County Jail – awaiting extradition to Texas.
